Pentatonic scale is a scale that derived from Minor scale. It has only 5 note per octave or pitch.2 note is removed from minor scale become pentatonic scale.Pentatonic scale is an easy scaling technique to learn an memorize. It compose of Pentatonic minor and pentatonic major.Same as minor and major scale.

Pentatonic scale use only 2 note in one string before going to another string either up or down. When we play pentatonic,we also use to finger from left hand, either use finger 1 & 3 or 1 & 4 to play 2 note in one string.
Pentatonic scale derive from minor scale. For example A minor scale has seven note A,B,C,D,E,F,G..from this 7 note,we remove 2 note only to form 5 note are A,C,D,E,G.The note we remove on 2nd and 6th that are B & F notes. The red show notes that removed from minor scal.

A minor : A,B,C,D,E,F,G
A minor pentatonic : A,C,D,E,G

For a lead guitar player, they can play pentatonic scale together with minor chord, because pentatonic scale is derived from minor scale. But,pentatonic chord is not available.Pentatonic chord has ability to form blues scale if we add certain notes on this scale.Blues scale we discuss on next lesson.
To understand pentatonic scale, let we know all the modes that have in this scale.Look diagram below :

Mode 1 : Minor pentatonic

Minor pentatonic is root scale that start with note  A from A minor pentatonic scale. Then followed by 4 remaining notes C,D,E and G as last note.

 Mode 2 : Major pentatonic
