Introduction to Barre Chords( basic building chord & shape)

Introduction

Barre chord is one of the type of chord other than open position chord.The word ‘barre’ come from French language,in English called ‘bar’,mean your chord is barre with your index finger.Index finger hold more than one notes of different string in parallel.Barre chord has it’s own shape base on various type of chords used,such as major,minor,dominant 7,diminished,suspended.Actually,barre chord is come from power chord.The different between barre chord and power chord is power chord used only root and perfect 5^th while barre chord used all triad of interval notes in certain chord.

Barre chord also known as ‘movable chord’,chord that can move up and down along guitar fret.If,root of barre chord or power chord is move from one position to other position of root,the other notes in the chord also change to their specific triad.Thus,it is important thing to memorize all shape of barre chord,from basic chord to professional chord.(from major/minor to professional chord such as maj7,diminished,suspended and etc).The shape will determined the sound produce while you play barre chord either major,minor or etc.Barre chord can be say like .Root + shape = Barre Chord.

Beside that,to conversant in building barre chords,you must know root & pattern position.ost importing thing you must remember all notes on guitar fretboard.If you don’t remember,you must memorize all the notes on fretboard.But,to built barre chord,you only should know note position on 6^th & 5^th of guitar string.These string play a role as root note in building barre chord.

Actually,open position chord comes from barre chord.Open position chord play near nutt of the guitar,somes note that you play is in open string.Example,when you play Am chord,triad notes are A-C-E,when play chord note are A-E-A-C-E.Your index finger no need to barre the fret yet,because A(root) & 1^st open E has barred by guitar nutt.Likewise barre chord,that use index finger to barre more than one note in parallel when hold chord.Look image below minor barre chord pattern that appy near guitar nutt,use A open 5^th string as root for Am chord.

Barre Chord Shape

Barre chord can be built in two ways,by using 6^th string or 5^th string as root for barre chord you want to built.Remember All notes in fretboard are compulsory.Look diagram below,show some root notes on 6^th & 5^th string you should know.
