Introduction
Augmented chord is a major chord that arise from major chord,but fifth is sharpened.Major chord formula is 1-3-5.In augmented chord,formula is 1-3-#5,fifth interval note in chord’s scale is rise to half step on guitar fret.Examples augmented show below
A major : A-C#-E A augmented : A-C#-F
C major : C-E-G C augmented : C-E-G#
Example above show A & C major chord.For A major,triad interval note are A-C-E,E is fifth interval note in C major scale,E is rise to half step become F,becaus of E not has sharp,it go to F become new chord Aaug !.Same as C major triad C-E-G.Fifth interval note is G is rise become G#.New interval,C-E-G#.
Augmented usually written as ‘aug’ sometimes ‘+’.(Example : Aaug orA+).The term ‘augmented’ mean ‘increasing’ or ‘addition’ in the original chord.Augmented for this chord indicate that 5th is sharpen.This chord is unstableAugmented chord can be augmented fourth,fifth,eleventh and etc.4#,#5,#11.However,augmented also has its Seventh chord,such as augmented 7,dominant 7 augmented.Examples Caug7.If you find chord written as C7+5 or C7+9, it is dominant 7 with augmented fifth or ninth.
